  1. The photography contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers who will register with the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. during the prescribed registration period for the Sinulog Photo Contest 2020.
  2. Official entry forms/registration for photo contest participants will open on December 9, 2019 (Monday) at the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. office at 8:00 AM-5:00 PM and online through www.sinulog.com.ph.
  3. Deadline of registration will be on January 4, 2020 at 12:00 PM, subject to availability of limited slots. Photographers must attend the orientation on January 4, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Belly Dancing Area of the Cebu City Sports Center.
  4. Registration fee is three thousand pesos (Php 3,000.00). Fee covers a competition ID allowing access to most Sinulog 2020 activities plus ten (10) entries of 5R photographs and two (2) entries in 8”x12” size for the Digital Art Photography Category. An additional fifty pesos (Php 50.00) will be charged for every 5R photo. A maximum of forty (40) extra entries is allowed per contestant. Each participant will be issued an ID number that will be used in identifying the photographers upon submission of entries. In case of disqualification, registration fees will not be refundable.
  5. Only digital cameras that are capable of taking raw format (i.e., NEF, CRW, etc.) and JPEG files are eligible. Cellular phone and drone photo entries are not allowed. Photo entries must be printed in 5”x7” size format for Categories 1-5 and 8”x12” for Category 6.
  6. Photo Contest Categories for all activities involving Sinulog from January 9-24, 2020:
  7. Sinulog Parade – Competing contingents of the Sinulog sa Barangay / Sinulog sa Lalawigan / Awarding Ceremonies / Sinulog 2020 Grand Parade
  8. Fluvial / Solemn Procession and Religious Activities – The miraculous image is sea borne along the coasts of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Cebu cities while the Solemn Procession passes through the principal streets of Cebu City and other church activities
  9. Float / Higante and Puppeteers – Float, puppeteers, and higante entries must be taken during the January 19, 2020 grand parade
  10. Human Interest – Photos must be taken within the Sinulog 2020 grand parade, fluvial / solemn procession routes or in areas where other Sinulog religious activities in Cebu City are held during the Sinulog 2020 photo contest period
  11. Festival Queen – Photos to be taken while subject is dancing during the Sinulog Festival Queen Runway Competition on January 14, 2020 and Sinulog Festival Queen Coronation Night on January 17, 2020
  12. Digital Art Photography – This special category allows digital enhancement using tools from any photo editing software where one or more photos can be merged into one photo entry. All merged photos showing people/parade dancers of contingents must be taken during the current Sinulog period. Soft copies of all photos included in the entry (all photos used before merging) must be submitted in JPEG format together with the final entry. Actual submission of entries should be 8”x12” size without border at 300 resolution. Only two (2) entries per registered contest participant will be allowed. Note: This special category will not be included in the selection of the grand prize.
  13. Deadline for submission of photo entries will be on January 27, 2020 (Monday) at 7:00 PM.
  14. Final entries shall be submitted as unmounted 5”x7” and 8”x12” photo prints. It must be in an envelope with the corresponding Sinulog 2020 competition ID number only. All 5”x7” and 8”x12” chemical-based print photo entries and JPEG must be accompanied in a separate envelope with the corresponding raw file in CD format. Name of the photographer and ID number should be on the CD. Non-submission of these requirements will mean immediate disqualification.
  15. Photographers are not allowed to bring their own models during the parade, like one would do on a photo assignment.
  16. Identifying marks, signs, and address to insinuate information of ownership is strictly prohibited.
  17. Decision of the designated Board of Judges shall be final and non-appealable.

Rules of the Contest

  1. Each contest must have a minimum of ten (10) contestants in order to declare a valid contest. If entries are less than ten (10), that category will be declared “No Contest” and prizes will be reverted to the foundation.
  2. Photo must be taken from the actual events during the Sinulog 2020 (i.e., January 9-24, 2020). Photos of any Sinulog celebration or any other festival in other places and venues and in previous years will not be allowed and will be immediately disqualified.
  3. Post production like exposure control (dodge and burn), color saturation (control), and creative cropping is allowed. Conversion to black and white color toning (sepia, blue, selenium, etc.) is allowed so long as done across the frame and not only in selected areas. Digital Art Photography Category is exempt from these prohibitions.
  4. The rights to all finalists and winning entries shall become the exclusive property of the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. and cannot be reproduced nor printed for publication without the express written permission of the Foundation. Ownership of the photo shall be retained by the photographer provided he/she may not use nor sell the photographs or variants of the same composition in any other purpose except for his/her personal portfolio. Corresponding compensation shall also be accorded to the owner of the photo of winning entries. The royalty of the photographer shall not apply every time Sinulog Foundation, Inc. shall use the photos in the promotion and management of the Sinulog Festival. Other than that, Terms and Conditions of Intellectual Property Rights Law shall apply. Photographers will be given photo credits every time applicable.
  5. Winners will be published in local dailies in due time with the date and venue of awarding of trophies and prizes.
  6. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and non-appealable.

Code of Ethics of a Sinulog Photo Contest Participant

  1. Being a Sinulog photo contest participant does not extend any special privilege as free entrance to any private event, nor does it entitle the photographer to any special VIP seating or placement in any Sinulog activity venue.
  2. Proper decorum and behavior is required of all Sinulog photo contest participants. Please do not disrupt any mass proceedings, processions, or other solemn events.
  3. During the Sinulog Grand Parade on January 19, 2020, photo contest participants must wear their official ID. ID must be visible at all times when the photographer is within the Sinulog dance route. Failure to wear the official photo contest ID will result in immediate exit from the dance route and disqualification from the contest.
  4. Each photographer is allowed one (1) assistant. The duly registered Sinulog Photo Contest participant must apply for their assistant’s photo ID. Registration fee for assistants be one thousand five hundred pesos only (Php 1,500.00).
  5. Registration fee is non-transferrable and non-refundable.
